KOUGA schools are all about wind these coming months.

In celebration of Global Wind Day on June 15, Grades 1 to 3 learners from 12 local schools embarked on a creative art and writing competition, themed The Wind.

Prizes up for grabs include books, equipment and science apparel. In addition, the Grade 3 winners will visit the Jeffreys Bay Wind Farm.

The participating schools form part of a literacy programme that is run in partnership with the Department of Education and ITEC, and supported by the Jeffreys Bay Wind Farm.

Schools that are participating in the Global Wind Day celebration include Chigwell Primary School, Gamtoosvalley Primary School, Graslaagte Primary School, Kruisfontein Primary School, Pellsrus Primary School, Hankey Primary School, Patensie Primary School, Quagga Primary School, St Patricks EC Primary School, Vukani Primary School, Weston Primary School and Sea Vista Primary School.

“This Global Wind Day celebration fits seamlessly into our foundation phase literacy programme and gives us the ideal opportunity to teach learners about the importance of clean, green energy,” says Marion Green-Thompson, Economic Development Director of Jeffreys Bay Wind Farm.
