SPCA Assisi opens own animal clinic

2018-06-28 06:03

THE SPCA Assisi in Humansdorp fulfilled a longstanding dream when they opened the SCPA Assisi Animal Clinic at their premises at the end of last month.

According to SPCA Control Officer Rickie Vorster, running an in-house small animal clinic registered by the South African Veterinary Council, is expected to save money over the long run.

“This clinic will make a huge difference for us. In the past, we had to transport animals to various animal clinics in Humansdorp and surrounding areas for operations - especially to to be spayed and neutered. Transporting the animals to the clinics added to the cost and stress on the animals undergoing surgery,” says Vorster.

“Now it would be a lot easier as the animals will be treated here.”

Despite having only a two-day-a-week operation run by veterinarian Dr Cathy Bezuidenhout, the clinic is beginning to hit its stride.

Any registered veterinarian is welcome to assist with the treatment of animals at the clinic - whether it is to sterilize cats and dogs, or to administer injections,” says Vorster.

She emphasises: “Although our main focus are the animals at the SPCA, the clinic is also open to the public - provided that they are less fortunate. Proof of income will be required before any animals will be admitted to the clinic.

“Services at the clinic are offered at a reduced rate.”
