THORNHAM is set to hold its inaugural Spring Festival from September 20 to 24 – a first for the area.Festival-goers can look forward to action-packed fun, live music, beauty pageants and various competitions.The family festival will kick-off at 18:30 on Friday, September 20, with a Grapjas Hour, followed by a Golden Oldies dance at 20:00.A mountain bike event will take to the dirt tracks at 08:30 on Saturday, September 21, followed by a Dominoes and Checkers competition at 09:00.Little Miss Thornham will take to the stage at 14:00, while rugby players – Thornham Senior and Thornham Old Crock – will battle it out at the Thornham rugby field from 15:00 to 16:00. There will be a Hip Hop dance performance at 18:00, followed by a langarm dance from 20:00 to 24:00.On Sunday, Percy and the Gang will entertain festival-goers. There will be a thanksgiving service at 15:00, followed by Godfrey and Friends and Thornham’s Got Talent.Hikers can enjoy a walk at the Honey Bush Trail at 09:00 on Monday, September 23.Also to take place on the day, are various competitions, Junior Miss Thornham, live music by Percy and the Gang, a dance extravaganza, drama and karaoke.Festivities on the Sunday will leave the starting blocks at 09:00 with a fun run.Also on the festival menu for the day are a potjiekos competition and Miss and Mr Thornham.“This is the first time that our community embarks on an event of this magnitude,” says event organiser Henry Cloete. “Not only will the festival provide much-needed entertainment, but it will also unite residents.“It is hoped that the festival will become an annual event.”For more information, contact festival organiser Henry Cloete at 043 704 7156 or 084 820 2179.
