MOTORISTS from Jeffreys Bay have been arriving in droves to view and pay their camera speeding fines at Kouga Municipality’s main office in Jeffreys Bay.

Among those who chose to do the right thing this week was Sipho Miggels from the Department of Education.

“I was so glad for this initiative and immediately took the liberty of checking and paying my fines,” he said.

“It would be great if the municipality could have operations such as this regularly, so as to give Jeffreys Bay residents the opportunity to pay their fines nearer to home.”

Community Services Portfolio Councillor Daniel Benson said that the operation would also be taken to other towns.

“We want to make it easy for all our motorists to pay their fines,” he said.

“We will also continue holding roadblocks throughout the area.”

He emphasized that failing to pay these or any other traffic fines would result in a Warrant of Arrest being issued for the offender.

“You will then also be charged for contempt of court. As a result, the fine will be more than it originally was.

“We would also like to caution motorists that, if there is a Warrant of Arrest for you and you are apprehended, the fine must be paid immediately or you face detention.”

He urged motorists to abide by the law when dri-ving.

“We all have a role to play in ensuring that everyone arrives safely at their destinations.

“Through this initiative, we will continue to enforce a zero-tolerance approach to lawlessness on our roads.”

The Traffic team will be at the Jeffreys Bay municipal office till Friday.
