YORKIE-OWNERS will concur that their pint-sized dogs are especially precious because of their enormous terrier attitude.

Some are pampered and some follow their owners like little shadows. This makes the loss of a tiny companion terribly hard on a doting owner.

“My dogs are behind walls and a solid gate; they are micro-chipped and tagged, as well as properly cared for. Which is why it remains a mystery that my Yorkie, Pippin, slipped out of the yard in Wavecrest a couple of weeks ago – and hasn’t been seen since. It is like he disappeared into thin air.”

These are the words of canine-lover Marinda Hough who is still baffled about Pippin’s disappearance. “The traffic on social media, between the SPCA, veterinarians and animal groups are buzzing in JBay, and when an animal goes missing, the word is spread wide and far. More often than not, the mutt is soon reunited with its owner. In that sense, our towns are aware and caring.”

A substantial reward has been offered, but nothing. “It makes me wonder if he wasn’t stolen for breeding purposes as he is a lovely little boy,” she laments.

She warns owners to take care over the festive period. “It is too easy for unscrupulous people to snatch a pet and leave with it.”
