THE Andrew Masterson Family Trust was one of the big winners at this year’s Royal Agricultural Show at the Showgrounds in Pietermaritzburg - winning four coveted Gold Cups.

The breeder’s senior and Grand Champion Black Angus cow, Milagro Power 1650, won the JFC Dixon Trophy for the senior champion Black Angus female, as well as the HW James Floating Trophy for the best SA-bred Black Angus on show.

They also won the Natal Angus Club Trophy for the junior champion Black Angus bull, Milagro Quebec 1704, as well as the senior champion prize for Milagro Amy 1471 in the Simmentaler breed.

Based in Humansdorp, the farmer is believed to be the first person to win the Royal’s top awards for two different beef breeds.

“It is absolutely amazing,” Masterson says. “It is always a huge honour to be able to show my cattle here in Pietermaritzburg, and to do this well is incredible.

“As far as shows go, the Royal is the one we want to win because of all its incredible tradition, the fanfare and everything that goes with it.

“I am thrilled to win the Gold Cups, but this success is not all down to me. I have to give a lot of credit to all the great people who work for me.”

In addition to winning the Royal Agricultural Society (RAS) Gold Cups, Masterson received a Royal Show medallion and rosette, Standard Bank cash prizes totalling R8 000, rosettes and ribbons from RAS president Mike Moncur.
