Ward committee elections to commence

THE election of ward committees in Kouga will come into full swing these coming months.

Ward committees are an important communication link between residents, ward councillors and the municipality.

It is the intent of the Kouga Municipal Council that all ward committees must reflect the composition, geographical spread and sectoral composition of each ward.

To serve on a ward committee, interested parties must be able to read and write, be able to debate issues, be a resident of the specific ward, and speak at least two languages that are relevant in Kouga.

Councillor Zolani Mayoni will be at the Oyster Bay Community Hall on October 4 for the election of the ward committee for Ward 1 (Sea Vista, Oyster Bay and surrounding farms).

On September 27, residents and interest groups from Pellsrus, Tokyo Sexwale and Lootspark are invited to join their ward councillor, Timothy Meleni, at the Pellsrus Community Hall for the election of a Ward 2 committee.

Residents of Lower Wavecrest will join their ward councillor, Willem Gertenbach, to elect their new ward committee for Ward 3 at the Newton Hall on September 29.

On October 6, councillor Freddy Camper will be at the Baptist Church Hall for the election of the ward committee for Ward 4 (Kruisfontein, Gill Marcus, Die Berg and surrounding farms).

On October 11, the ward committee for Ward 5, which includes Arcadia, Graslaagte, Vaaldam, Johnson’s Ridge and surrounding areas, will be elected at the Kruisfontein Civic Centre. The ward councillor is Desmond Petersen.

The ward committee Kwanomzamo, Ward 6, will be elected at the Kruisfontein Civic Centre on October 13. The ward councillor is Velili Vumazonke.

Councillor Eldridge Februarie will be at the Loerie Community Hall on October 27 for the election of the ward committee for Ward 7, which includes Thornhill, Loerie, Longmore, Mondplaas and surrounding areas.

Councillor Ludwig Vorster will be at the Newton Hall on October 5, for the election of the ward committee for Ward 8 - Upper Wavecrest, Kabeljous and surrounding areas.

On October 20, Ward 9 councillor Sibongile Jujwane will be at the Vusumzi Landu Hall where the new ward committee for Hankey, Phillipsville, Rosedale, Extension 4 and surrounding areas will be elected.

Ward 10 councillor Amos Mabukane will be at the Dan Sandi Community Hall on October 25 for the election of the ward committee of Ramaphosa Village, Andrieskraal and surrounding areas.

Residents of Jeffreys Bay Central and C-Place will join their ward councillor, Hattingh Bornman (Ward 11) at the Newton Hall on October 18.

Residents of St Francis Bay, Cape St Francis, Paradise Beach, lower Humansdorp Golf Course Settlement will join Ward 12 councillor Ben Rheeder at the St Francis Bay Village Hall on October 19 for the election of the new ward committee.

Ward 13 councillor Margaret Peters will be at the Weston Community Hall on November 1 for the election of the ward committee for Hankey, Patensie town and surrounding farms.

Ward 14 residents can join their councillor, Cynthia Mandeka, at the Aston Bay Community hall for the election of the ward committee for Aston Bay, Marina Martinique, Mandela Bay and Ocean View.

On October 31, Ward 15 councillor Horation Hendricks will be at the Humansdorp Country Club where the ward committee for Humansdorp Town, Boskloof, Panorama, Upper Humansdorp Golf Course, Lower Arcadia and Moerasrivier will be elected.

All meetings start at 18:00, except for Ward 12 whose meeting will start at 17:00. All stakeholders and interest groups are encouraged to attend.
