KOUGA’S water mascot was officially named at the opening of the “KIA Makietie Jeffreysbaai” on Friday evening.

The winning name was “Splash”, as suggested by no fewer than eight entrants – all women - in Kouga Municipality’s Name the Drop competition.

Kouga Mayor Horatio Hendricks said all eight winning entrants were invited to the opening night and their names entered in a draw to determine who would receive the main prize.

“A big congratulations to Minilize de Lange, our final winner. She received four weekend tickets to the Makietie, as well as a 2 500 litre rainwater tank,” he said.

Splash was also at the Makietie on Saturday to oversee the municipality’s free colouring-in stall for kids.

She also mingled with festival-goers to help spread the “save water” message and posed for dozens of photographs with young and old.

“Despite the recent rain, our dams are still far from full, with the combined levels standing at just above 50%.

“Water restrictions are, therefore, still in place and we ask that residents continue using water wisely,” Hendricks said.

Water leaks can be reported through the municipality’s Link Powered by Vodacom app. To download the app go to https://download.linkapp.co.za/#dl or visit the Google Play or App Store.

Leaks can also be reported at the municipality’s call centre, seven days a week from 07:00 to 19:00, by calling 042 200 2200.
