ANGLERS can reel in thousands of Rands at this year’s JBay Winterfest Fishing Skins 2017 competition that is set to take place from the Gap at Kabeljous to Kitchen Windows Restaurant from 07:00 to 13:00 on July 14.

This unique shore angling competition, offers a healthy fish population: kabeljou, leerfish, steenbras, grunter, baardman, zebra, blacktail, elf, musselcracker, poenskop, stumpnose, bronze bream and various species of sharks and stingrays.

Two flags will demarcate the fishing boundaries. No fishing will be allowed outside of these flags. All weigh cards must be handed in at the prize-giving tent before 14:30.

Men are allowed to cast for ladies and juniors, as long as they are entered into the competition.

The competition supports catch-and-release. Marshals spread evenly along the fishing area, will record the catches, fill in the weigh cards and return catches to the water as quickly as possible.

Anglers mush have valid fishing licenses and adhere to MCM regulations at all times.

Anglers stand a chance of winning R3 000 every hour for six hours - making every hour like a mini-competition. The highest scoring fish for each hour will be the winner. Edible fish count 10 points/kg, while non-edible fish count 1 point/kg.

Other prize categories include top lady, top junior and most species. There will also be a Penn Power Hour. During a selected skin, the top five anglers will each win a fishing reel from Pure Fishing.

Tickets are available at Commercial Marine.
