Zero tolerance for fraud and corruption in Kouga region

2019-03-14 06:00

KOUGA Municipality has adopted a zero-tolerance approach to corruption and fraud.

“The Kouga Council adopted an anti-corruption strategy and fraud policy in June last year and established the municipality’s first Disciplinary Board for Financial Misconduct, as well as a Risk and Ethics Committee,” Executive Mayor Horatio Hendricks said in his State of the Municipality Address.

“We have also appointed an Internal Audit Manager. Moreover, the Audit Committee, consisting of independent experts, meets quarterly to review the municipality’s financial activity.”

He said the Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) was also fully functional. Key successes to date were investigations into historic irregular expenditure.
