NORTHDALE’S Farrell Drew has earned himself a role in South Africa’s most talked about movie — Kandasamys: The Wedding, hit sequel to Keeping up with the Kandasamy’s which was released in 2017.

The “who’s who” in the film industry, together with socialites, celebrities and the media, attended a fancy premier for the sequel at Ster Kinekor Gateway on Wednesday night. Drew, who plays the role of Wenzil, a choreographer, said that he was thrilled to be part of one of South Africa’s biggest movies to date. “It was thrilling. Everything was really well managed and organised, which isn’t always the case. “The actors and actresses were well taken care off and the ambience on the set was incredible,” said Drew. Not a newcomer to the acting scene, Drew has featured on BET’s Top Actor Africa as well as being involved in various feature films and commercials both locally and internationally and has starred in several theatre productions.

“This was the first time I featured in a movie that went to box office so naturally for me I was a bit squirmish.

“I can barely watch myself on television so you can imagine the discomfort of seeing myself on a much bigger screen, even though it was for a small part,” said Drew. Having graduated top of his class in 2015 from the Durban University of Technology, where he studied drama and production studies, Drew said that acting is a lot of hard work, giving a character an opportunity to live through you.

“The ability to portray another person has always been exhilarating to me, it’s why I became an actor.

I am an extremely observant person and sometimes go out of my way to watch people, which isn’t as weird as it sounds I swear,” said Drew. Drew can be seen on the big screen in Kandasamys: The Wedding, which is set to be released on April 18.
