ENTRIES for the 2016 Face of KZN model search contest are now open to women and men between the ages of 18 and 35 in KZN.

Entries close on 30 June and finalists will battle it out at a pageant at the Pietermaritzburg City Hall on 3 September. Competition organiser, Bengs Nkosi, said he is planning to make this year’s event even bigger than previous years’.

Although he is yet to confirm the sponsors for the competition, he said there will be tons of prizes to be won.

“Prizes will include trophies, certificates, sashes, bouquets and lot more prizes. Last year we had about R53 000 worth of prize vouchers from sponsors.

“The Face of KZN competition was my vision back in 2010 as I wished the youth could empower themselves in the modelling field.

“Modelling is more than just walking the ramp - it teaches one public speaking skills, etiquette, time management and manners, in general,” said Nkosi.

The winners will choose two non-governmental or non-profit organisations which they will partner with during their reign.

Nkosi said it is important for the youth to recognise obstacles that hinder them from achieving their dreams.

“We also teach the youth about HIV/Aids, teenage pregnancy, STIs, STDs and domestic violence. They need to be aware of what stops them in their tracks.”

After the 30 June deadline a panel of six contest management committee members will review the applications and then select the 30 finalists.

“For the first time this year we will celebrate cultural diversity in our youth and contestants will wear ethnic or cultural diversity. They will later change into their swimwear and formal evening wear. We want people to know about the competition well before the closing date so they have time to prepare themselves as we are targeting the whole of KZN.

“We have extended an invitation to 2016 Miss South Africa, Ntandoyenkosi Kunene and SABC1.”

Nkosi said this year they are planning to raise funds for 300 pupils, who need school uniforms, with a target amount of R150 000.
