HAVING served the police force for 40 years, captain Sada Pillay has finally called it quits on an illustrious career of service to the communities he was stationed in over the years.

Beginning in the SA Police Service at the Mountain Rise Police Station, Pillay underwent basic training at the Wentworth Police College and was thereafter posted at Chatsworth for visible policing.

Pillay was then later transferred to Pietermaritzburg Central where he was part of an important and strategic section of the SAPS.

“There, I worked for the crime prevention unit in the central business district and the tracking down of persons who were suspected of having committed serious crimes,” said Pillay.

An avid sportsman, having played in the Northern Football League under SAPS colours, Pillay took up the challenge and throughout his career has assisted in sport among policemen.

He went on to serve at the Plessislaer Cluster Trio Task team after notching up years of experience in crime prevention and was thereafter deployed to the uMgungundlovu North Cluster task team where a record number of arrests for serious crimes were made under his leadership.

Before finally retiring, Pillay returned to Mountain Rise Police Station, where he headed the car jacking and theft of motor vehicle team, to cap of an illustrious career filled with service medals and numerous police decorations to his name.

An active member of the Pietermaritzburg Police Rock and Surf Angling Club, Pillay says he will continue to be active in the club while looking forward to spending quality time with his wife, children and grandchildren.

“I will continue to serve my community and will be willing to commit a civilian arrest if the situation calls for one,” warned Pillay.
