PIETERMARITZBURG will once host to the country’s oldest and richest horse racing sprint on May 27, when the annual Tsogo Sun Sprint takes to the turf at the Golden Horse Casino in Scottsville.

With a rich 55 years in history behind it, the Tsogo Sun Sprint is the only horse race in South Africa to feature four A Grade races in one day, with over R3.7 million in prize money up for grabs in the 1200 metre sprint to the finish. The sprint attracts the fastest horses around.

While Tsogo Sun had been a partner in the event with the Golden Horse for 14 years, the group brought new pizzazz to the event in 2014 when they acquired the naming rights of the prestigious race.

It’s a day when Pietermaritzburg brings out its finest, from fashion, to picnicking in the autumn sun and drinking champagne in the winner’s circle.

The Tsogo Sun Sprint is a highlight on both the racing and Pietermaritzburg calendars.

Picnic sites on the infield are available for sale to the public and entry to the race day is free.

A new family area for under 18’s has been set aside next to the beer garden, and there are millions of reasons to attend the race day – lucky draw prizes of Tsogo Sun experiences, the bowling alley inside the Casino complex and entertainment galore.

Save the date now and enjoy the fun, fashion and flair of South Africa’s oldest Sprint race.
