Animal sacrifice in the name of ‘religion’?

2015-10-14 06:00

KERSA Pillay’s letter dated 30 September certainly deserves credit.

No animal sacrifice whatsoever will cleanse man of his sins. Christians believe that The Law of Grace doctrates The Law of Moses and the death of Jesus Christ has awarded all humankind salvation.

It is sad that fellow humans now live to eat rather than eat to live baring evidentally, the slaughter of animals. I’m told by some fellow believers of that in every faith they see chickens or goats’ necks chopped and blood drunk by certain priests. Goats are trampled upon, ox are brought down like ants by so-called men who want to shout aloud their manhood.

I resigned from a political organisation after I, as an animal activist, had to choose between seeing an animal humiliated and tortured before it was killed and feasted on or abide with my purpose in life of being an over-the-top animal lover.

Pillay certainly has merit in his letter, but let’s get to the point - the days of having meaty feasts, being greedy and living off meat is maybe also smoke screen to us proud humans, and I say this in no uncertain terms hoping for the glory of people to see us as worthy hospitables.

I find the slaughter of animals, as much as biologists tell me its part of the food chain, horrific. Further I declare the torture and some cruel hidden cases of abattoir killings of animals infuriating.

Let’s all set examples in our own homes, often we live with pride knowing we eat meat every day. Let’s practice humility whether we have broken furniture, gutter living or are merely physically miserably.

We have lost focus - the point is, let’s garnish our minds and hearts with the thoughts of animals bleeding to death, being trampled upon and crying as they are slaughtered. Religiously I suppose, Pillay can certainly get challenged as I recently commented in a derogatory letter written in a leading newspaper about Christian pastors and crusades which I called openly a “shame”.

From a humane point of view, I oppose the cruel slaughter of all animals even if its in the name of “religion”.
