Attack on brigadier unwarranted

2015-07-01 06:05

VENOLIN Govender is confusing the public with his lack of understanding and distortion of facts (CAT and SAPS, Maritzburg Fever, 24 June).

All the issues he raised in his letter under reply were addressed in detail to him at a well attended Community Police Forum (CPF) meeting at the Mountain Rise Station on 17 June. It is glaringly obvious that the muddled- minded Govender did not read Maritzburg Fever of 17 June.

The groundwork for the establishment and reasoning for the formation of the Combined Action Team (CAT) were excellently presented by the provincial commissioner, Lieutenant-General Mmamonnye Ngobeni.

Security-company owners are integral to the provincially and nationally sanctioned CAT. They invested in CAT as part of social responsibility to improve community safety and there is no gain for them.

The issue of police radios being used by tow-truck operators is poles apart from their use by CAT.

In this regard, Govender is requested to refer to his letter to the Public Eye (about 18 months ago) regarding tow truck operators. Govender’s letter aside from being misleading is packed with anomalies - he acknowledges CAT as an excellent initiative and goes on to state that “all good things must come to an end”.

Brigadier Bantham cannot be held liable for the acronym CAT which Govender takes exception to - this, despite him being explained by the writer that the acronym is not patented nor copyrighted and its use by the local action unit is no transgression.

CAT has undoubtedly achieved positives like the men and women in blue from Mountain Rise - I plead with Govender not to confuse the crime-faced public, but instead be proactive.

The attack on Bantham is unwarranted and a gentleman would retract it with an apology now that the facts explained to Govender (CPF meeting on 17 June) is placed in the public domain.

Coincidentally, there is the C@TT club at Mountain Rise Station – the Cake @ Tea-Time Club subscribed to by hardworking women in blue.

Do they change their club name Mr Govender?

The unwarranted attack by Govender is the same as to one criticising a farmer with a mouthful of food.
