PHASE one of the revamp at Cascades Lifestyle Centre is currently under way and is set to be complete by the time “silly season” hits Pietermaritzburg.

Centre manager, Lynda Lees, said there are various upgrades planned for the mall in order to offer clients a more holistic shopping experience.

“Over time customers retail needs change and, in order to continually give our customers the best shopping experience, we need to change as well.

“Cascades Lifestyle Centre is tucked away in the foothills of Chase Valley, away from the rush and urban frenzy, where you can relax while still offering a multitude of upmarket stores that are situated alongside light, fresh, uncluttered corridors leading to outdoor restaurants, coffee shops and a beautiful piazza,” she said.

In keeping with the changing environment some shops have relocated to different areas of the mall to allow for other stores and various improvements. Thus far, Pine Ridge Spur has relocated to another site to make way for the new Outdoor Warehouse.

The next step has been the Woolworths upgrade which offers features that can be found at Woolworth’s stores across the county.

The Cascades Woolworths store will be the first in Pietermaritzburg to include a café and the store will be expanding its food range.

One of the major challenges the centre currently faces is a parking shortage, which will be addressed during the revamp.

“Currently there is overflow parking near entrance four however, there will be a basement parking area as well as on grade parking in line with the regulations set down by the planning department,” said Lees.

While there is no set completion date, Lees said that the centre and constructing company, Scott Taylor Consulting, is doing its best to minimise customer disruption.

“Phase one should be complete by Christmas, and the rest of the upgrade by next Christmas,” she said
