Cat and SAPS

2015-06-24 06:00

THE counter assault team (Cat) acronym has been misused.

Cat is a joint venture of security bosses and police officials who are trying to eradicate crime. Cat is a band of elite highly ranked, rigorously trained police officials trained in various forms of combat.

These officers also provide the president with ultimate protection that forms part of the SAPS security service. Now Cat is not as close to the counter assault team and they are private security bosses not state security bosses. Brigadier Bantham has allowed this initiative and it is excellent, but is tarnishing the name of the SAPS and she should be brought to book about this.

In 2006 tow-truck operators, carrying police radios, were arrested due to utilising them, now Cat and civilians (security personel) have the authority to carry these freely and this is a direct violation of the SAPS communications Act. Bantham should answer to this. This initiative could have been called anything dog, mouse or even monkey, but it is misused misrepresention and must be addressed. Cat members are elite and this should not be taken away from them as they have worked hard. Bantham should have been more learned when executing such programmes as it is like working for Macdonalds yet opening your own Macdonalds from within and that is called infringement.

Citizens also need to note that since the inception of Cat (PMB) the publicity has been excellent, but serious crimes have increased - the Mountain Rise AK 47 robbery, the Oribi Road heist. There are always two sides to a story and Cat PMB was too good to be true, but the truth will be revealed and as a saying goes “all good things must come to an end”.
