Disabled parking used by armoured banking vehicles

2015-05-20 06:00

Give credit where it’s due, that’s my motto.

I am referring to the decision by SBV to man its armoured banking vehicles with disabled employees, thus providing equal opportunities to those who might otherwise be disadvantaged.

I saw evidence of this the other day when an SBV vehicle, bearing fleet number B009, was parked in the disabled parking area at the Fairways on Main Centre in Howick.

Admittedly, the employee I actually saw seemed to be in rude good health as he cradled a machine gun in his arms, looking for all the world like Rambo on steroids.

But I have no doubt that, inside the vehicle, the rest of the crew were prepared for instant action, their wheelchairs and walkers ready for pursuit in the event of a robbery taking place.

To be brutally honest, one wonders how successful their efforts would be, but it’s the spirit that counts.

And if outstripped they could always resort to rude words and digital gestures aimed at the fleeing miscreants. My wife thinks that I am mad and insists that never in a million years would SBV employ disabled folk in positions that require full mobility. Well if that’s the case, Miss Smarty Pants, then please explain why their security trucks are forever parked in disabled parking areas.
