Geological report raises interesting aspects

2015-09-30 06:00

THANK you for your article titled “New cemetery for Msunduzi recommended” that appeared in the Fever newspaper dated 16 September.

It is noted that article refers to “70 hectares of land”.

Under the heading “background” the municipality makes reference in its report to a 70-hectare portion while under the heading “implications” the municipality refers to 75 hectares.

The municipal report indicates that the 75-hectare site relates to a market value of R21 million and that the municipality would recoup R400 million from services and the sale of graves.

At the economic portfolio committee meeting on 15 September a councillor questioned the figure of 60%, which was suitable for burial purposes. Following discussions it would appear that the municipality’s economic division will reconsider the geological report to establish the accuracy of the percentage of useable land for burial purposes.

The geological report raises some interesting aspects regarding the use of the land for burial purposes.
