THE draw for the PMB High Schools FA Cup soccer tournament was held at Carter High last Friday.

The tension and excitement in the room was so palpable that one could be forgiven for thinking it was for the Champions League.

What was encouraging was that captains from participating teams were involved in drawing names from the little balls to determine which teams would be playing each other.

This made them part of the function and added to the excitement as they all had certain teams who they either wanted to play, or avoid, if possible.

In the girls section, defending champions Haythorne Secondary were drawn in Group D against two schools that will be participating for the first time in St Nicholas and ML Sultan.

The boys section will undoubtedly be fiercely competitive and it seems like Group D may be the toughest as it features Maritzburg College, ML Sultan, St Nicholas and Maritzburg Christian School.

With teams coming from as far afield as Ixopo and Wartburg, there is bound to be some top U19 schools football on display, so get down to Carter High on Saturday and Sunday to see the action.

The tournament begins at 8.30am.

Entrance is free and food and refreshments will be on sale.
