THANDANANDI recently held an open day in place of its annual general meeting in order to promote their work and progress over the last year in a fun and creative way.

Lisa Strydom, Thandanani chairperson, said this year had been good and that the organisation had reached a place of stability after a couple years of restructuring and financial difficulties.

Strydom said that the lowest point this year was the death of Penny Haswell, one of the founding members at the organisation.

“In memory of Penny, her family established the Penny Haswell Education Fund to be administrated by Thandanani.

“This is an opportunity for us to expand our work into this critical area and we look forward to honouring Penny in this way,” she said.

Director Duncan Andrew said it has been a good year.

“In terms of our beneficiaries we have done everything we had planned and achieved all our goals for the year. We just want to appeal to the public to support the work that we do.

“That’s what the 4Kids initiative is about, getting the average person to show their support for the foundation in any way they can.”

Andrew said getting locals interested and excited about the work that Thandanani does and hosting it at their offices was the reason for the open day.

“We wanted the public to see where we work and what we do.

“We were fortunate to have some of our partners exhibit their work as well,” he said.
