THE man who shot and killed his girlfriend during a heated argument arising from a WatsApp messege in Dambuza on Sunday afternoon has died.

Zakhele Bhengu (38) was involved in an argument with his girlfriend after he allegedly found text messages on her phone from an ex-boyfriend.

A heated argument ensued andIt ended when Bhengu shot the woman, Fundisile Ngcobo, once in the chest. It is suspected she died instantly.

Bhengu then turned the firearm on himself, shooting himself in the head, but was still alive and “gasping for air” when emergency services arrived.

ER24 confirmed that the man had died early on Tuesday with family and friends surrounding his bed.

Bhengu neighbour, who would not be named, said he knew the couple well and did not see them fight often.

“They did not fight a lot and he seemed to be a good guy,” said the neighbour.

The neighbour said that Ngcobo’s passion was her 10-year-old daughter.

“She was a single mother and worked hard to give her daughter everything. She wanted the best for her daughter and to give her what she never had growing up.”
