March against Eskom increase to go ahead

2015-06-17 06:00

“STOP Eskom’s 25% increase” peaceful march is set to continue on June 23 although Eskom and the National Energy Regulator (Nersa) are in talks over withdrawing the application altogether.

Flyers, petitions and questionnaires have already been printed and distributed in communities, said Pietermaritzburg Agency for Community Social Action (Pacsa) researcher Julie Smith.

“It’s happening. Our second meeting of the ‘Protest Eskom’s 25% Increase Coalition’ took place on Tuesday. Everything is progressing well and more and more people are joining us,” said Smith.

Smith said the petitions are available in Zulu and English and can also be completed electronically on community petitions.

The march, supported by unions and groups such as Cosatu, groundWork, ratepayers associations, Treatment Action Campaign and Pacsa, will take place on 23 June from the Market Square at 9 am.

The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 15 at 5.30 pm at the Pacsa offices at 170 Hoosen Haffajee Street.
