THE Msunduzi Municipality hopes to achieve a clean audit for the 2014/2015 financial year.

Chairperson of the Msunduzi audit committee, Sandile Mnguni, told the Executive Committee (Exco) that the Auditor-General is currently going through the municipality’s financial statements and they will find out by next month if they were able to achieve the clean audit.

“We received the external audit plan from the Auditor-General. That report indicated the focus areas and the timelines as to when they are expecting to finalise the audit. In October they should be finishing the audit.

“We are hoping that since most of the asset challenges were cleared by the CFO’s office, we are hoping that a clean audit is still a possibility,” said Mnguni.

However, he said that the municipality is yet to improve its risk management.

“We hope that with the implementation of SAP, as our financial management system, we will be able to deal with some of the gaps in our IT systems,” said Mnguni.

For the 2013/2014 financial year, the Msunduzi Municipality received an unqualified opinion from the Auditor-General
