EPWORTH School has proudly announced the appointment of Cape Town principal Laura Bekker as the new “head of school” from January 2016.

She takes over the position from Liz Klug who will retire at the end of the year after 11 years at the helm.

Bekker, who takes up her position as head both of the preparatory high school, will be the 14th head in Epworth’s 117-year history.

With over 14 years’ experience as a principal and 33 years in the field of education, Bekker has served as the principal of Rustenburg High School for Girls in Rondebosch, Cape Town since 2007. Respected for her pioneering spirit in the areas of curriculum methods, leadership and management of school systems, Bekker is well poised to lead Epworth as a foremost South African education facility through the next chapter of the school’s journey.

Ian Ogilvie, chairman of the Board of Governors at Epworth, said that Bekker has been carefully chosen from a dynamic selection process which attracted applications from some of SA’s most qualified education fraternity.

“We are confident in Ms Bekker’s ability to inspire and lead Epworth into the next chapter of its rich history,” Ogilvie said. - Supplied
