Not all corrupt at Mountain Rise

2015-05-13 06:00

IN recent weeks the media has reported very differently on the police. Two courageous policemen placed their lives on the line in Cardiff Road to fight off criminals.

Dinesh Govender is in critical condition at Grey’s Hospital while his colleague Sergeant Iyer is traumatised. Their families are undergoing severe stress at the moment. Only a miracle saved the brave Govender.

Weenen residents, Rudolf and Ranae, were left stranded on the road by a “policeman” after explaining their hijack ordeal to the impervious public servant. This blasé response from an officer of the law must be investigated at the highest level.

A corrupt policeman from the Mountain Rise police station was caught in a sting seeking a bribe. Corruption is always the malady that weighs against this station. The station is not all foul - there are excellent officers who serve with dedication - their moral compass pointing in the right direction.

To the hard working and dedicated men and women at Mountain Rise and the combined action team, you are making a difference by attending to crime speedily. The recent arrests are evidence of this.

Corruption can only be weeded out by not co-operating as in the Soni case and with communities also doing the right thing. A corruption-free station begins with the community saying no to corrupt policemen offering to make dockets and blood test results of drunk drivers disappear.
