MSUNDUZI municipality mayor Chris Ndlela has committed to investing in the young people of the city to develop their talents.

This after he handed over the municipality’s donation of over R37 000 worth of musical equipment to guitar prodigy, Luthando Jackson.

Luthando, who moved to Epworth Preparatory from Merchiston Primary to join their musical programme, received a new guitar as well as sound equipment which will now allow him to record his music and teach other children how to play.

“Since the other children found out that I can play they have been asking me to teach them. I would like to donate my old guitar to a child who would like to learn how to play, but who can’t afford to buy a guitar,” said Luthando.

Ndlela said it is a responsibility to open the doors of learning and culture for all.

“The role we have to play is to ensure that we promote culture and invest in outstanding children in our community. Luthando is indeed such a child. We have taken a decision as council to support programmes such as these in order to unite communities.”

He encouraged pupils to grab the opportunities that are now available to them.

“When we were growing up, we didn’t have the same opportunities. Your better lives start now, at school. This donation should serve as a motivation to you all to show you that you can get help from the government or municipality to pursue your talents,” said Ndela
