AFTER being shortlisted in the SA Hip Hop Awards, Pietermaritzburg hip-hop artist Mduduzi “Duzi Fox” Zwane is a force to be reckoned with in the industry.

Born 24 years ago, Zwane is on a mission to establish a “space” for hardcore and conscious hip-hop in Africa.

Growing up listening to the late Tupac Shakur’s Dear Mama, Zwane was introduced to hip-hop at a young age. Being a Shakur fan because of his thought-provoking lyrics, he chose this genre to express his life experiences through music.

After sending his mix-tape song titled Paradise Freestyle to the SA Hip Hop Awards, Zwane was chosen as one of the top 30 contestants out of 1 600.

Out of the 30, only two will be chosen to participate in the awards.

“My song sets the tone that I’m now an established rapper after going through a lot of challenges within the industry, including exploitation,” he said.

While he looks up to renowned SA and international hip-hop artists, he hopes to one day be one of the leading hardcore, powerful rappers in Africa.

“I want to establish a space for hardcore and conscious music in Africa.

“We need more honest music conversations where we speak about issues we see and problems we have. I urge people to support me through this journey.”

He also has a social media campaign where the first 200 people to vote for him must take pictures, post them and tag him on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. They will receive a free copy of his mix- tape song
