MARITSA Gouws from Lock and Key Solutions will be jetting off to Pretoria in September as she competes for the title of South African Council for Businesswomen (SACBW) Business Women of the Year.

Gouws was named regional finalist at a recent SACBW breakfast at Victoria Country Club which she hosted in her capacity as chairlady for the SACBW in Pietermaritzburg.

SACBW is a dynamic agent of change in the South African business environment and aims to promote the business interests of its members in particular and the economy of South Africa in general, and offers development for all levels of businesswomen where they can learn, grow and be challenged to excel.

As part of its commitment to see women succeed, the role of uplifting and recognising women for their outstanding accomplishments in business has been fulfilled by the annual Business Woman of the Year competition which, since 1985, has recognised the achievements of outstanding women in business in South Africa.

National judging of the regional finalists will take place on 10 September in Monte de Dios, Pretoria with the winner being named at the gala dinner on 12 September.

This year there were 88 nominations and 27 interviews with judges in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Free State, Western Cape and Mpumalanga.

Gouws is currently also the chairlady for the Locksmith Association of South Africa, the president for the Afrikaanse Handels Instituut and is on the Women in Business board in Pietermaritzburg.

Gouws was overwhelmed and ecstatic when she was named regional finalist. “It is such a privilege and an honour. It is extremely overwhelming and totally surreal. I still can’t believe it. I would love to win because it will put SACBW on the map in Pietermaritzburg and it will assist me with my real goal, and that is to mentor young women.”
