Pupils present musical theatre

2015-07-22 06:00

MARITZBURG College, Epworth, GHS and The Wykeham Collegiate present Breathing Freedom, a workshopped musical-theatre production, from 27 to 30 July in the Olivier Cultural Centre at College.

The production explores the notion of freedom from various perspectives - “born-frees” - within South Africa’s supposedly free, democratic society.

It is structured around a compilation of well-known tunes, including Hugh Masekela’s Open The Door, God’s Gonna Cut You Down by Johnny Cash, and the Lighthouse Family’s I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free, among others.

Drawing from a number of theatrical traditions, this piece attempts to engage with its audience on issues that face society, particularly the youth. Breathing Freedom can be seen at 7pm. Tickets are R50 for adults and R30 for pupils and pensioners from Denise Mitchell at 033 342 9376. - Supplied
