Response to Hindu Society criticism

2015-07-22 06:00

THE definition of Seva: selfless service. It is a service performed without any expectation or award for the person performing it.

It is with great remorse that a person in the community, and a Hindu at that, has such a negative connotation as to what the Midlands Hindu Society is trying to achieve. Not only does Hinduism mean you have to be spiritual, it could also mean the uplifting of a fellow human’s spirit. There are various members of the community who are not in a position to take their family out to an event or to enjoy some sort of entertainment, free of charge in such crippling financial times.

This Msunduzi Diwali Festival provides free entertainment and fun for the family, all weekend long. The entertainment is suitable for the youth, adults and for those who are more spiritual at heart.

At this festival, there is even an area allotted for quiet time and soul searching where you can pause for a moment and have a sense of reflection. Why shouldn’t Hinduism be projected in this fashion?

Diwali is a time of togetherness. The Midlands Hindu Society aims to bring the community together as a whole, irrespective of race, creed or culture. This brings in their motto: Unity in Diversity. In the times of Kal Yug (The Dark Age), togetherness is a rare and almost extinct commodity.

May I suggest to Rajesh Ramharak and people who share the same sentiments - instead of making such futile and insignificant comments, try spending more time on uplifting Hinduism as a whole. Perhaps a change in attitude will cause many people in the community to turn their frown into a smile.
