PHILIP De Charmoy (16), a St Charles College Grade 10 pupil, has been selected to represent South Africa at the Afro Basket Tournament in Mali in August after only three years of playing basketball.

Philip is the third generation in his family to attend St Charles and said he always followed the international basketball scene and when he got to school thought that he would give it a try.

“I thought I’ll try it and see what happens. I really enjoy playing and I’d like to see what the future holds with the sport however, I am still going to pursue my studies at university,” he said.

Philip was selected for the provincial side and then for the national side where he played in a tournament in Botswana recently.

The Afro Basket Tournament includes teams from around the continent who will compete to become the best team in Africa
