A SOBANTU gospel singer, Nokubonga Dladla (35), has been nominated in the Best R&B Gospel category in the eighth SABC Crown Gospel Awards. She was chosen for track six on her album Isisbusiso Sami (My blessing).

Although this category does not need Dladla to campaign for public votes, she asks people to support her.

Describing how happy she was she said she is a living testimony of her life.

“I entered the awards in November and I’m very happy that I went through. The name of the track that got me in as a nominee is called I Love you Jesus. The Lord has fought my battles for a very long time. God’s work takes me back to 1997, when I almost died. I was almost shot dead, but I survived. That would have not happened if the Lord was not on my side. I Love Jesus is a song of gratitude. It’s from me to the Almighty. I’m very happy to be nominee and I look at myself as a winner. The Lord has kept me under his wing and for that I will forever be thankful.”

She started singing at a young age, but Isisbusiso Sami is her first album that was released in 2013.

“I’m grateful to Norman Mkhize for being there for me. He is lending a hand in many ways. I am grateful and I’m happy that I’m putting my township and my city on the map. My wish is to come back with the award. I appeal to people to continue listening to my music on KZN Capital 104 FM,” said Dladla.

The red-carpet awards will be on 15 November at Durban’s ICC, starting at 4.30pm.

The main programme starts at 6pm. The awards will be broadcast live on SABC1 from 8pm.
