True meaning of Ramadaan

2015-06-17 06:01

RAMADAAN certainly has no substitute. All the months belong to the Almighty.

He alone has created the world and he alone has created time. And time continuously changes, yet the special feature of Ramadaan is such that the Almighty says “the month of Ramadaan is the month in which was revealed the Quraan, a guide for mankind and open signs of guidance and a criterion between truth and falsehood”.

Fasting is a unique moral and spiritual attribute. The main reason behind fasting is to attain piety. After all it is an act of worship that testifies to total submission and obedience.

The hardship that the faithfu l endures while carrying out this obligation is insignificant in comparison with the noble objective of attaining the Almighty’s pleasure and the great reward in the hereafter.

Fasting helps the faithful develop a strong personality and character. It instills in them the quality of willpower and determination. It also helps develop the virtue of displaying affection towards the poor and the distressed.

For one can easily remember their condition when one undergoes the pangs of hunger. Fasting also nurtures a gentle forbearing character and teaches patience.

It also provides the faithful with both spiritual growth and physical fitness. It strengthens the body and is a cure to many known diseases.

Ramadaan is no ordinary month. The harms caused by spiritual accidents are worse than harms caused by worldly accidents.

What we are required to acquire in the month of Ramadaan and God willing it will be acquired if we spend the month of Ramadaan correctly.

Hopefully the first fast of Ramadaan will commence on 18 June.
