AA: Huge fuel price hike looms

2018-05-23 06:01

ANOTHER big increase in the fuel price is likely at the end of the month if current trends are anything to go by, the Automobile Association (AA) said this week.

Commenting on unaudited mid-month fuel price data released by the Central Energy Fund, the AA said last month’s fuel price account was closed earlier by the Department of Energy, resulting in the postponement of a substantial 50c per litre increase brought on by a weakening rand and rising international oil prices at the end of April. This means the country started the month with a substantial fuel deficit. The AA said fuel users are, at this stage, facing increases of 74c per litre for petrol, 81c per litre for diesel, and 78c for paraffin. — BE.
