ONE of Hilton College’s top achievers, Balvan Rishidaw (17), received his Independent Examinations Board results while holidaying in India.

Balvan, of Pietermaritzburg, was ecstatic to learn that he was one of the school’s top achievers having gained distinctions in accounting, economics, life orientation, mathematics, physical science and visual arts.

“The work load was much harder this year, but I managed it well and was not too stressed. I used all my school holidays to study and I felt really well-prepared for the finals,” he said.

Balvan said that he had treated this year “like every other year” and made sure he did not allow the hype to catch up with him.

Balvan has already been accepted to study business science at the University of Cape Town next year and said he hopes to follow in his father’s footsteps and own a business some day.

“My dad runs a business in the footwear industry and I see myself running my own business in 10 years,” he said.

Balvan advised future matriculants to continuously make notes throughout the year and study hard for the smaller tests.
