WRITER, author and story-teller photographer Aarti Govender will be launching her book It is I, Blessing this Saturday, April 6. While acknowledging that each one of us go through happy and sad times, Govender believes that our thoughts during these times are what shape our lives. “This book is an insight into my life and others and is meant to enlighten people, to strengthen them emotionally through life,” said Govender, who added that she herself has had to overcome various struggles from stumbling blocks such as insomnia, “middle child syndrome”, fear and anxiety, the trauma and tragedy of losing a child and various other challenges, both emotional and physical.Having started writing in 1996 while still at school, Govender recalls her first ever piece she wrote and how it shaped her to pursue writing in the future. “My teacher had given us a piece to do for creative writing. Unconsciously I wrote so much that it came to 13 pages. Once my teacher had read it she made me read it out loud to the class and marked me 100% on it,”“She told me to continue writing and that I had a gift for it,” said Govender. Govender says that she has been through a lot in her life but she has never stopped writing, and to this day finds herself writing something every day. “I feel at peace and a sense of calm when I write,” she said.Govender will be hosting her book launch at Butterflies for Africa on 37 Willowton Road and has asked that people RSVP to avoid a space issue as the venue can only cater for up to 80 people, with 30 people already confirmed. For more information see www.thetravellingthought.com or contact Govender by phone at 083 591 0505.
