THE KZN Southern Zone held their third league fishing competition at Albert Falls Dam recently.

It was an extremely hot day, but the fishermen and ladies proved they can fish.

Forty two anglers fished according to SAVBAF rules and 93 fish were caught.

Of the 93, 31 were caught by the Pietermaritzburg Angling Club and SAPS Midlands. PMB Angling Club caught 17 and the SAPS Midlands caught 14. Bass, tilapia and carp were caught with weights up to 4.5kg.

Competitors also “rescued” an exhausted Egyptian goose whose legs were caught in a fishing line.

Theo Cave from Albert Falls was called and took the goose home for observation and later confirmed it was doing well.

An observer Nicky Durell said: “We appeal to the public to clean up after using our dams and throw away loose lines. We saved one bird, but how many did not make it?” - Supplied.
