ANC manifesto launch

2019-01-23 06:00

AS a confused and frustrated voter, I read with eager anticipation to see how our genial president was going to launch the ANC’s 2019 election manifesto.

What a disappointment then, when I read his acknowledgement that state capture and corruption have weakened some public institutions, only to see his plan for the next election starts every item with: “We will ...”

Mr President, your party said this in 1994 and it still hasn’t done a fraction of what it promised.

There is documented evidence to show how the country has been looted by the past president and the Gupta family, yet they still remain free in Dubai and even sat with you on your platform at the stadium.

Ministers who were in charge when more than 140 elderly and ill patients were allowed to die, are given senior positions and receive a fat salary every month, instead of being thrown into jail.

Mr President, when you can face the country and declare: “We have jailed the criminal ministers ... we have jailed the corrupt former president ... we have built new teacher training colleges ... we have enforced existing municipal by-laws,” then Mr President, you won’t have to give me a free food parcel or a party T-shirt and cap, because believe me, Mr President, you will definitely have my vote.
