ANC must come clean on land sale

2017-01-25 06:02

THE ANC in Msunduzi must come clean on the proposed sale of Portion 58 of Erf 1539 Manning Avenue, Pietermaritzburg, to African Diya Trading 02 CC, and stop this transaction immediately.

Sitting ANC councillor Oumar Mehmood, although having resigned from the African Diya Trading 02 CC, was one of the original members of this CC, together with Hajra Essa Bibi. Coincidentally, on the Msunduzi Linen CC, Mehmood is a member, while Bibi has resigned.

The fact that this property and its proposed usage, as indicated in the application by African Diya Trading 02 CC, is for the manufacturing and distribution of linen and was presented to the council, should have raised concerns.

Surely, mayor’s, speaker’s and acting municipal manager’s offices should have investigated this matter further due to the councillor’s vested interest before presenting it to a full council for approval.

Surely the deputy municipal manager of Sustainable Development and City Enterprises portfolio, Dr Ray Ngcobo, should have also investigated this prior to sending it to the strategic management committee for approval.
