ANC uses ‘bully boy’ tactics

2017-04-05 06:02

DESPITE the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal being presented with a compromise inclusive option when it came to the renaming of parliamentary committee rooms, it chose to go the ‘bully boy’ route.

This was confirmed without a shadow of doubt in a legislature email this week which stated that the former ANC Caucus Room had been changed to Ingcugce Committee Room while the former IFP Caucus Room would now be known as Lillian Ngoyi Room.

The renaming of committee rooms has become something of a political hot potato in recent years. Some time ago, all parties in the KZN Legislature were asked to submit their recommendations.

The DA’s recommendation was that politics be removed from the agenda and the venues be named after two heritage sites in our province, namely iSimangaliso and Okhahlamba. Clearly this was not a popular suggestion among ANC members who voted against them.

While the ANC may have succeeded in getting its own way, it has lost further respect from the other parties in the KZN legislature. And yet they still seem surprised when, in other cities and provinces, every other party would rather work together to keep the ANC out of power.

The DA will revert to using committee rooms 1, 2 and 3. We will not bow to the ANC’s insular and self-serving agenda.
