CHARISTMATIC, revival evangelist Angus Buchan visited Ephesus Church in Northdale last Friday to pray for the community.

After a chance encounter with the famous author and evangelist at the Lakeside Café, Pastor Neville Sewlall of Jacob’s Ministries managed to persuade Buchan to pay Pietermaritzburg a visit.

“He immediately agreed even though we weren’t on his calendar for the year. After that I contacted various pastors around Pietermaritzburg and those who are part of our Jesus for Pietermaritzburg initiative to spread the word,” said Sewlall.

He added that they used Ephesus Church because of the space and because they could not use the City Hall.

Over 1 200 people were in attendance to receive the famous Buchan’s word of prayer and various other pastors with the event being a free for all.

“We have forged such a great relationship with him that he drove here with his delegation for free. It was an auspicious night whereby we all prayed for our nation and its people,” said Sewlall. Sewlall said that after that much-needed morale boost provided by the presence of Buchan who is hailed as a religious figure in South Africa and the world, the churches of Pietermaritzburg, who are part of the Pietermaritzburg for Jesus initiative would be embarking on a seven day fast and prayer in October for the sake of the nation.

“The church is very concerned with the state of our nation at the moment. Everyone is finding it hard right now so we just want our people to come together, young and old, to pray for the future of South Africa,” said Sewlall.

The Pietermaritzburg for Jesus campaign is an initiative that many churches in Pietermaritzburg are part of and seeks to bring all the people of the city together.
