THE 55th Art in the Park wrapped up at the Botanical Gardens Pietermaritzburg on Sunday.

An unprecedented turnout was experienced on Friday and Saturday overcompensating for hours lost due to weather on first and second days

“I was particularly impressed with the racial mix of visitors which was almost 50/50 for the first time as this speaks to social cohesion as main objective of the show. Further, the amount of youth that attended proved against a notion that the show appeals to older generations only,” said Dumisani Mhlongo, Msunduzi Pietermaritzburg Tourism Association director.

Indication so far is that this year’s number will double those of last year.

“Development through art is our mandate and it is exciting to see growth of Art in the Park since we associated with it last year. What we see is this befitting 55th anniversary celebration,” said
Kevin Palium- CEO of Creative Arts College - the main sponsor.
