“EMPOWERING young people does not start at the age of 18 or 19, it starts the moment a child is born.”

This was the advice by Arya Samaj scholar from New York Dr Satish Prakash during his lecture at the Hindu Society in Northdale on Saturday.

Dr Prakash said it is important for parents to sit their children down and speak to them as friends.

“Ask your child ‘how are you doing?’, ‘how is school? ‘who is bothering you?’ Ask about the challenges they are facing as they are growing up and ask how you can help them.”

He advised the Hindu Society members to start speaking to their children in Hindu and play Hindu music at home.
