“IT has been an exciting journey for the past 12 months,” says Riaz Ahmed, Mountain Rise Astro Football Club member, ahead of their first anniversary on December 2.

Ahmed told Maritzburg
Fever
celebrations will include a two-day tournament at Mountain Rise Primary on December 2 and 3.

The tournament begins at 10am and it is open to everyone. Entry is R300 per team.

Under 9 teams to U15 teams will play on Saturday and U17, open and over 40 will play on Sunday. Team registration closes on December 1 at 6pm.

Ahmed said since the official opening of Mountain Rise Astro Football Club on December 2, 2016, they have received overwhelming support from the community.

“Since we started this tournament many youths have joined and we didn’t realise there were so many who loved astro football. This is now beyond soccer, our facilities are not only about soccer, they have a become a place where families come together to socialise.

“We started with only two courts, but now we have built the third court due to the high demand from the community. We will open the third court officially on our anniversary,” he said.

He said astro football has made a positive impact as they accommodate everyone from all areas around Pietermaritzburg.
