ELANDSKOP author Mxolisi Sibisi has published his first book tittled Abaningi abayayazi leyonto [Many people do not know that].

Sibisi, from KwaXimba, released his book two weeks ago and it is already available at Adams Book Sellers.

Speaking to Echo, Sibisi said this is a big achievement for him. He said he has always loved writing but he never thought that one day he will write and publish a book.

“When I was growing up I used to write down everything that I was feeling at that moment. When I was in Grade 8 I started writing short stories based on my mood or based on something that I saw when I was not at home. I used writing to express my feelings. Pen and paper became my best friends that I talk to,” he said.

He said bad decisions that the youth make, such as taking drugs or drinking alcohol, is what inspired him to write the book.

“This books talks about a boy who came out of school and made bad decisions that got him in trouble. He had to cover a lie with another lie because he did not know what to do anymore. That is because he had no one whom he looked up to and someone who guided him into the right direction.

“Our youth turns out to make bad decisions when they come out of high school because they think they are old enough.

Those decisions end up affecting their future because some do not even have direction. With this book, I want to encourage them and let them know the importance of having someone that you look up to, who guides you in the right direction,” he said.

Sibisi said it took him five years to write the whole book and to finally get it published.

He said this is because he would write and stop and focus on other things.

Once he is done promoting his book he plans on helping young children in the area write short stories that will be published.

“In 2017 I opened KwaXimba Reading and Writing Club which is aimed at helping children improve their reading and writing skills. I am going to use this centre to help children write and publish short stories with help from [Department of] Arts and Culture.”

Sibisi’s book is available for R180 at Adam Book Sellers, but for R150 if you order from him.
