Bail applications postponed

2017-12-06 06:01

THE Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court postponed the bail application of the four accused of murdering Nompumelelo Ngubane (38), to December 5.

Ngubane was found dead in her car in KwaPata a day before her wedding in

She was allegedly taken to Camps Drift where she was allegedly strangled then driven to KwaPata and her body put in the driver’s seat.

She was later discovered by her family.

The car in which Ngubane was found was taken for DNA testing, however, the results are yet to be released.

Her family alleged that weeks before her murder Ngubane had received a message threatening her with death if she went ahead with the wedding.

The four in the dock for the murder are Ngubane’s alleged fiancé Jabulani Sithole (43), and his co-accused Kwanele Shoba (22), Sanele Zondi (18) and Sifiso Mkhize (27).

Sithole’s attorney was a no-show at the bail hearing last Thursday, therefore the matter had to be postponed.

Shoba and Zondi live in Ashdown and KwaMpumuza respectively and Mkhize lives in KwaMpumuza.

The accused face charges of murder and robbery.

The state alleges the victim, a mother of three and a nurse at Edendale Hospital, was allegedly picked up from a salon by Sithole who was allegedly with the three co-accused when he fetched her.

Shoba, Zondi and Mkhize had allegedly pretended to be air-conditioner salesman at the salon.

The state’s reasons for opposing bail are that the witnesses, who are well known to the accused, are not safe and that if bail is granted the accused might not attend the case as this is premeditated murder.

Another reason is that the safety of Sithole is of concern since he is known to Ngubane’s family.

The state alleges that Sithole planned the murder, hired his three co-accused to kill Ngubane and allegedly paid them R2000.
