ABSA, the official sponsors of the annual Mandela Day Marathon, continued their support of the Edendale Hospital paediatric ward this year, bringing hope to children.

Back in 2017, Absa committed to a three-year initiative at the hospital’s paediatric ward, to decorate the ward as well as supply much-needed equipment.

Last year the initiative saw the ward getting a makeover of about R350 000.

This past weekend, the bank gave the hospital wheelchairs for children between the ages of 4 and 18 years, office furniture for nursing staff, educational toys and books for the children to use during their stay in the ward. Absa also donated R100 000 to the hospital.

Managing executive for Absa in KZN and Mpumalanga, Ronnie Mbatsane, said the bank is committed to making a positive impact in society and assist the communities it operates in.

Mbatsane said Edendale Hospital has become a big part of the Absa family and the bank looked forward to making another meaningful visit and contribution to the ward.

The event was attended by uMgungundlovu District Mayor Thobekile Maphumulo and the grandson of Nelson Mandela, Mandla Mandela. — The Witness
