THIS year we are very excited with our plans for our awareness campaign #GOBLUE, which is aimed at creating awareness around the needs of the elderly in our community and the various ways individuals, schools and businesses can assist. We were overwhelmed at how well our newspaper articles were received last year and we are working hard to ensure that this year’s articles and events are even better. Older Persons Awareness Week officially runs from September 30 until October 6, but PADCA’s #GoBlue awareness campaign will be running from September 17 to October 12. Once again — schools, businesses and individuals are invited to join in creating awareness around the needs of the elderly. HOW WILL WE DO THIS: We have embraced active ageing as this year’s focus and this topic will feature strongly in our informative articles. Throughout the campaign, the written articles will appear in the newspapers, on our Facebook and webpages. WHAT CAN YOU DO: We are asking that you partner with us by creating awareness in your school or business. You can do this by liking our Facebook page, pinning the PADCA supplied information on your notice boards or including the information in your newsletters. In addition, we ask that you purchase blue and lime green fabric and wrap lamp posts and trees outside your premises in blue and lime green or even encourage an initiative that will benefit the seniors in the community (you are welcome to give us a call for some suggestions). At the end of the day no matter what you do, be it big and bold or small and personal, it will impact on and improve the life of a senior in our community and at the same time increase awareness of the plight of elders. Let us join hands and wrap the town blue and make a difference in a senior’s life — #GOBLUE.
